Cot Bedding Sets – Must Have’s For Your Child
Cot bedding sets are just as important as any investment you will make because even if kids abandon them fast, you can still use them for a long time. As infants outgrow their cribs, they will need to move into a bigger bed called the cot. When they do, you will need about 3 to 5 sets of bedding for your cot bed because you need to wash them every week, and even if you have about 5, you are sure to have them around for more years to come. Take a look at the following must have’s for your child.
· Waterproof mattress pad
This is essential cot bedding because toddlers, as they undergo toilet training even during sleep, will need waterproof mattress pads for any unavoidable incident of bed wetting. You will need to protect the mattress because it’s difficult to dry, and this is where you invite dust, mites, and bacteria to thrive in the mattress which will be too unsafe for your child as he sleeps and use the bed for a long time.
· Quilted mattress cover
The surface of the waterproof mattress pad may not be suitable for very young skin, so it’s equally important to invest in a quilted mattress cover for extra comfort and additional protection for these rough surfaces. When sudden bedwetting occurs, usually, it’s the quilted cover that absorbs the wetness before it reaches the waterproof mattress cover, so it’s important to check.
· Fitted Cot Sheets
These are what you put on the mattress after the mattress covers. It’s essential in every cot bedding list because this is what covers all the sides of the bed that is visible and what is often used. This also protects the mattress from any unwanted dirt, dust, and allergens as you protect your child’s very sensitive skin too. Waterproof sheets are indeed expensive but needed for the long term, so for starters, cotton ones are good enough as you save up on waterproof sheets.
· Light Blankets
This is just what your child needs as part of his cot bedding because if a duvet or a friend is just too big yet, these light blankets will keep him warm. Cotton are the popular choices, but you can also go for brushed flannelette or jersey cotton. Fleece is not advisable yet at this point because it invites dust and other allergens for such sensitive skin. The fibers are not suitable either for asthmatic children.
· Sleep Positioner
Though this is not an immediate need as part of the cot bedding, it can still be helpful to keep a child sleeping on their side or back whenever needed. Small kids need to sleep on their side at times to help them with minor breathing problems or whenever their noses are congested with minor colds due to the very cold weather. A sleep positioner can keep them on a preferred sleeping position because children can get too cranky if that’s the only position they can comfortably sleep.
